The 97th Indian Science Congress (ISC) concluded here today with Dr.G.Madhavan Nair, General President, Indian Science Congress expressing satisfaction over the successful conduct of this mega event. In his valedictory address he informed that there was general consensus among the experts, research scholars and various stakeholders that the advancement in science and technology should prove to be useful in improving the quality of life of the common man by providing food security, energy security, water security and better health care. Dr. Nair informed that recommendations of ISC would be consolidated shortly and submitted to Govt of India for further consideration
Earlier Dr. Nair handed over the Vigyan Jyoti (Flame of Science) to Prof. K.C Pandey, General President- elect of Indian Science Congress 2010-11. It may be mentioned that vigyan Jyoti was introduced with 97th ISC with an underlying concept of kindling an urge in the minds of young students to do scientific research while pursuing their studies in various disciplines of science, engineering and technology. ISC is the largest participated event in the field of science in the country, said Dr. Nair. The next Indian Science Congress will be held at Chennai and hosted by SRM University Chennai.
