Plan for next decade of Kakadu tourism
Environment Protection Minister Peter Garrett said the plan opens up opportunities for new experiences and visitor infrastructure at Kakadu over the next decade.
Over recent years Kakadu tourism has broken new ground, with connection to Aboriginal culture now at the heart of the visitor experience, a great step forward for the park, Mr Garrett said.
Kakadus Shared Tourism Vision has led to a host of new Indigenous tourism experiences, including the triple award-winning Kakadu Culture Camp.
We can now see the next steps in Kakadus tourism journey. We know theres demand for more small -scale accommodation and new Indigenous businesses – and untapped potential for visitors to come in all six seasons and stay for longer.
This plan puts some fantastic ideas on the table, from open-air theatres and eco-lodges through to culture camps for school kids and Indigenous fishing tours.
The tourism master plan maps out an exciting future for tourism in Kakadu, with new ideas for tours, facilities and other business opportunities.
The park has already started work on a number of the plans recommendations:

Strict Environmental Conditions placed on Jandakot Airport Development
The approval conditions include significant offsets, measures to protect the Carnaby’s black cockatoo, threatened orchids, bandicoots and wallabies, as well as the creation of a conservation area on airport land.
“Before giving my approval to this project, I thoroughly considered the impact the development would have on the whole of the environment, including threatened species,” Mr Garrett said.
“I am satisfied the airport expansion can proceed without unacceptable impacts on the environment or nationally protected species, particularly with the strict conditions imposed and the significant offsets detailed in the approval conditions.
“As a condition of the approval, Jandakot Airport Holdings must buy and protect more than 1,600 hectares of Carnaby’s black cockatoo habitat as well as provide $150,000 per year towards recovery and research activities for this species. I am pleased to say this is one of the best environmental outcomes achieved in a Western Australian development for the Carnaby’s black cockatoo.
“The company will be required to rehabilitate about 110 hectares of land next to the airport for a conservation area of more than 600 hectares, with local council agreement. The company must also develop conservation plans to manage, map and monitor native species, treat dieback, and control weeds and feral animals.
“These conditions, as well as others outlined in the approval, will be of benefit to the environment and will help conserve threatened species into the future. This is a good outcome for the environment.
“Under national environment law, my role in relation to commercial precincts is limited to ensuring the type of business that occurs on the land will not have an unacceptable impact on the environment.
“I have imposed a condition that prohibits any chemical-dependent businesses or chemical storage above the Jandakot Groundwater Mound. The company must also develop a water management plan and upgrade airport infrastructure to reduce the risk of groundwater contamination.
“It must also provide $700,000 in funding to the Botanic Gardens and Parks Authority’s rare orchid program. Any protected orchids in areas to be cleared will be translocated to conservation areas.”

Final Four NCAA 2010 Tournament Brackets Preview: Michigan State vs. Butler University
The Michigan State Spartans, champions of the Midwest region, and the only team making a repeat appearance in the Final Four, will take on the Butler Bulldogs who made a surprising run through the West region to earn a spot in front of their hometown fans. The matchup pits the Big 10 powerhouse which has been in the Final Four in six of the past 12 seasons against the Horizon League champions who are making their first Final Four appearance in school history.
Michigan State brings a 28-8 record into the matchup after finishing 14-4 and tying for the regular season Big 10 title. After losing in the first round of their conference tournament to Minnesota, the Spartans have reeled off wins against New Mexico State, Maryland, Northern Iowa, and Tennessee to reach the Final Four. The Spartans have had plenty of dramatics in their run, with a total margin of victory of 13 points in the four games. In the first half of their second round win over Maryland they lost former Big 10 player of the year Kalin Lucas to a torn Achilles tendon. Lucas was the Spartans’ leading scorer at 14.8 points per game and also averaged four assists a contest.

2010 NIT Tournament Scores and Brackets Update
North Carolina edged the University of Rhode Island by one point in overtime to advance to the finals of the 2010 NIT Tournament. The scores in the first and second half were the same with each team scoring 30 points by halftime and 29 more points by the end of the game.
Deon Thompson made two free throws to put UNC up 68-65 with over two minutes left to play. A jump shot by Keith Cothran reduced the lead to just one point. But several missed shots kept the game 68-67 at the end and sending UNC to the finals.
Dayton beat Mississippi 78-73 to earn their ticket to the 2010 NIT Tournament finals. Chris Johnson scored 22 points to lead the Dayton team along with Marcus Johnson adding twelve more points to seal the win. Terrico White added 19 points in the loss by Mississippi.
The 2010 NIT finals will be played at Madison Square Garden on April 1, at 7 PM EST.

Thousands of people have already signed up for the IPad which will be ready for release on April 3, 2010 at 9 AM at Apple stores. Reports indicate those who have pre-purchased the units might have to wait up to an additional week for their devices to arrive.
Retail chain Best Buy is expected to also sell the units and rumors are floating that the store might only have up to fifteen units for sale.

2010 Final Four Tickets Romp at Butler University Causes Uproar
According to reports, some students were allowed to purchase tickets for the 2010 Final Four games ahead of the general student body. This ticket purchasing information was distributed to more than the allotted number of people resulting in all of the tickets being sold.
Butler University was alerted tot he issue and barred almost 200 student ticket buying privleges as well as making those tickets purchased available once again on Tuesday. All tickets were then sold out quickly.
Butler is set to take on Michigan State from Indianapolis Saturday night with game time set for 6:07 PM EST

NCAA 2010 Final Four Preview: West Virginia vs. Duke Update
The two highest remaining seeds will square off as the West Virginia Mountaineers take on the Duke Blue Devils.
West Virginia finished second in the Big East Conference in the regular season behind Syracuse, but put together a run to win the Big East tournament and have continued rolling in the NCAA tournament, defeating Morgan State, Missouri, Washington, and top-seeded Kentucky to reach the Final Four. Although the Missouri and Kentucky games were fairly competitive, the Mountaineers have been impressive in defeating all of their opponents in the tournament by seven or more points. West Virginia is led by Da’Sean Butler who averages 17.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3.2 assists per game. Kevin Jones is second in scoring at 13.7 points per game, and also average 7.2 rebounds. Devin Ebanks is the team’s leading rebounder at 8.2 boards a game and also averages 12.0 points per game. West Virginia will very likely be without starting point guard Darryl Bryant for a third straight game. Bryant, who broke a bone in his foot prior to the Sweet 16 was to be fitted for a special support in his shoe that might make it possible for him to play against Duke, but reports Tuesday indicated that it is unlikely that he will be ready to go against Duke.
Although Duke is a school that has been to lots of Final Fours, and the players on the roster have a fair amount of experience with lots of juniors and seniors filling key roles on the team, they have not recently been on this big of a stage. The past few seasons have seen Duke exit the tournament early as upset victims. The Blue Devils were the ACC regular season and tournament champions and shredded Arkansas Pine Bluff, California, and Purdue by double digits before defeating Baylor in a close 78-71 game in the Elite Eight.
