Several films are up for a host of awards including the spectacular 3-D adventure movie Avatar which was directed by James Cameron. The movie is up for a total of nine nominations including the coveted best picture. After making over $700 million in revenue domestically, the film could go on to make history by winning tonight.
One performer up for the Best Actor award is George Clooney who plays character named Ryan Bingham in the movie Up in Air. The movie chronicles the life of Bingham who spends most of his life in airports and planes while employed as a corporate downsizer.
Superstar Sandra Bullock was nominated for best actress award this year. Bullock was nominated for best actress with her role in the move The Blind Side. She was recently given an award known as the Razzie which almost mocks a performance which she graciously accepted.
Bullock will be going up against a tough lineup in the best actress category with Helen Miren and Meryl Streep also being nominated for the award.
In New York, many Oscar watchers are facing an issue with two companies fighting over money. Cablevision has been fighting with ABC over the amount of money that is collected from the huge New York based cable company. Cablevision has been paying ABC a reported $200 million and wants another $40 million which Cablevision is refusing to pay. At this point, no Cablevision subscribers will be able to see the Oscars this
