Earlier, the minister hoisted the national flag and addressed the gathering and said that the state government is to start separate cycling tracks in select places like Kondapur, Madhapur etc. in city to ensure safety of bicyclists like in many western countries and encourage bicycling culture in city. Stating further, Mr. Lakshmaiah added that IT department has created 1.8 millions sq. ft. new work area for IT companies in the last year. He complimented Atlanta Foundation for organising such a massive cycling event. He assured IT industry any kind of help from the Government and said that his department is one click away from their laptop.

Mr. Deenanath Harappanali, Chairman and Founder of The Atlanta Foundation welcomed the gathering and thanked them for making difference for themselves and as well to the underprivileged children by their participation.

A Hyderabad based trust, The Atlanta Foundation along with prominent industry forums viz NASSCOM, ITsAP, TiE and AMCHAM (American Chamber of Commerce in India) and with the support of the Hyderabad Visitors Convention Bureau (HCVB) and the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) organised the India's biggest ever corporate cycling event, The Republic Ride - 2012 on the occasion of the Republic Day. They have also adopted it as their annual event.

Such rides are being organised regularly every year on Independence Day, Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanthi for the past three years. These rides are born out of our passion for cycling and education. The Republic Ride provided a unique cycling experience with a chance to make a positive difference to those who really need it. This year event is sponsored by Ascendas IT Parks - The V and CyperPearl, Mahindra Satyam, Invesco, ADP, BAS. The ride, which began in 2009 with 189 riders, has gone on to receive the record number of 4000 bicyclists this year. These cyclists rode the different distance options of 100 kms, 50 kms, 10 kms and 5 kms depending on their personal capacity. The riders pedalled through Nanakramguda (ISB Road), Osman Road / Langer House Road, Himayat Sagar, ICFAI Business School (Shankarpally Road) and reached back to Gachibowli to the finishing point.

The event was flagged of at dot 7 AM as announced and bore a festive look with bicyclists attired in shorts, respective company T-shirts, helmets, etc. Right from 10 year old kids to 67 year oldies participated. Mr. Marri Lakshma Reddy, 67 years old and another K. Seetharamaiah, 65 years participated with a lot of enthusiasm shoulder to shoulder with the youngsters. They are frequent bicyclists, and participated in similar events of 100 and 200 kms in the past. Riders of different genders and age groups were seen actively participating in the ride.

Along with the ride, a cycling carnival was also held with several cool cycle based games like Roulette, Hook 'em, Paar 3, Ring O, Toollaverid, Wheel of Fortune. Several IT executives were enjoyed those games. There were food stalls, and plenty of activities like the Flag Me! Contest where over 100 flags of 100 different countries were on display. Hundreds of riders and school children took to guessing the flags. Those who guessed the maximum flags would be announced the winner and will walk away with prizes. Results of which will be announced later.

Ascendas IT Parks - The V and CyberPearl.Ascendas hosted rest stations, emergency vans and support vehicles for the event, besides being the official co-sponsors supporting the event. Ascendas IT Parks - The V and CyperPearl gave away a trendy bicycle to a lucky winner.

Nearly 1000 school children participated in Flag Me contest, English Vocabulary Contest based on the Atlanta Foundation's educational content and the finals of the inter-school quiz contest. There were a plenty of activities for kids with a kids ride edition, a written English vocabulary test, inter-school quiz contest. The Final of Interschool English Contest were also held.

This year a special Kids ride edition was also arranged. Hundred of kids actively participated. The cycles required were provided free by Atlanta Foundation.

The Cycle Dealers, Distributors, Importers of bicycles such as Orbea, The Bike Affair, Ride 2026 Bikes, Yellow Jersey had set up stalls displaying a variety of bicycles starting from Rs 9000 to Rs 4.2 lakhs! The information of Mountain, Road, Hybrid, Folding and Kids Bikes, accessories, spare parts, clothing etc. was made available. Information of Cycle Tourism, Cycling Events was also available for the information of the participants. A costliest Mountain Bicycle - Trek Elite 9.9, a 2010 model was on display. This light weight bicycle weighed only 6 kgs. It is made up of Carbon Single Mould. The entire cycle was a single frame without any joints. Currently these bicycles are sold well in cities like Bangalore, Pune, Delhi, Mumbai. Hyderabad is now slowly catching up said Ms. Shilpa Shah, a local distributor of the imported bicycles.

Mr. Sami Makki, a pioneer in mountain biking in India from Pune also had a stall displaying Ride 2026 bikes. Ride 2026 are the importers and distributors of Bicycles, Parts, Accessories and Clothing. Ride 2026 Bikes started as a club in 1996 in Pune, pioneering in mountain biking. It was founded by Mr. Sami Makki promoting mountain bicycling, doing demos of mountain bikes and events.

Let them try seriously, he said. They also planned to organise a Cycling to Work Week in near future. They suggested that government should plan to have a special venue for cycling events.

We enjoyed participating in the Flag Me Contest. Vexillology - study of flags is my passion informed D. Sravanthi, 8th class student of Meridian School. Pavithra and Pravalika both from Vikas Concept schools said it is fun and quite rare to see hundred plus national flags of different countries at one place. It is very novel, we both enjoyed participating in the same, they informed.

Mr. Vinith of ADP said he is participating in the event for fun. We have a Happy Club and all of us are participating to enjoy together. Mr. Ravikanth another participant who is participating for the first time said it helps to keep fit. Cycling is a good habit and I want to cultivate, he informed. Ms. Kavitha of Thermo Fischer said that by her participation she would like to support Atlanta Foundation which trying to generate funds to support the education of underprivileged children. Ms. Taposi from GE said, cycling is a group activity. Together we came to enjoy, she said, Mr. Rajeev of GE said, the Government must set up a special venue for Cycling Events to encourage the cycling habit.

Hearing impaired children of Ashray Akruti, a school and a support organization for hearing impaired children demonstrated Self Defence Techniques. Weapon Handling and Knife Handling techniques taught to them by their trainer Mr. Babu. Speaking on the occasion Mrs. Shashikala, Principal of the school said they have about 165 hearing impaired children who are taught such a very useful life skills. Mr. DPK Babu, Director of Ashray Akruti said they have also introduced Multi Media skills training to hearing impaired senior students. The proceeds of The Republic Ride 2012 go to Ashray Akruti, school.

The participation was based on a nominal registration fee. The funds generated from the event will be used to support the education of under privileged children. The goal is to raise awareness and funds for the education of under-privileged students, such as - Anjaiah Nagar Government Primary School near Hi-Tech City and Ashray Akruti, (a school and a support organization for hearing impaired children).

The results of Vocabulary Contest, Learnasium English Contest, Learnasicum Scholars 2012, Flag Me will be announced later.

The Freedom Ride 2009 raied Rs 30lakh for Akshray Akruti in 2009. The Republic Ride - 2010 along with ITsAP raised more than a crore for the flood victims of Andhra Pradesh. The Republic Ride - 2011 donated 400 cycles to underprivileged students. It also works to promote cycling for better health and greener environment.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory begins widespread adoption of Maplesoft technology

MapleSim and Maple to enhance modeling and simulation in space exploration projects

JPL is implementing Maple, MapleSim, and MapleNet in its various projects. Whether creating America's first satellite, Explorer 1, sending the first robotic craft to the moon, or exploring the edges of the solar system, JPL has been at the forefront of pushing the limits of exploration.

Curiosity, JPL's latest space rover, launched at the end of November, aims to explore Mars to investigate whether the planet could have ever supported microbial life. Current JPL projects include spacecraft missions to comets, asteroids and the edge of the solar system, as well as satellites that monitor the land, oceans, and atmosphere of our own planet.

Bombardier Aerospace Delivers 245 Aircraft and Receives Orders for 249 Aircraft in 2011

January 24, 2012 /India PRwire/ -- Bombardier Aerospace announced today its deliveries and orders results for the 11-month fiscal year which ended December 31, 2011.

Despite a volatile economic environment that continued to create uncertainty in many sectors around the world, including the aerospace industry, Bombardier Aerospace put in a solid performance. For the 11-month period ended December 31, 2011, Bombardier delivered 245 aircraft compared to 256 (i) aircraft deliveries in the previous fiscal year (February 1, 2010 to January 31, 2011). This delivery total is essentially in line with the 240 aircraft delivery guidance that was provided in February 2011 although with a different mix of aircraft.

For the 11-month period ended December 31, 2011, Bombardier received 249 aircraft orders, net of cancellations, compared to 201 orders, net of cancellations, for the previous fiscal year.

"The recurring fluctuations in the world economies in 2011 created a mood of caution in many sectors, and the resulting uncertainty continued to challenge the civil aviation industry," said Guy C. On November 30, 2011, the Corporation's Board of Directors approved the change of financial year-end from January 31 to December 31, effective December 31, 2011. Business Aircraft

For the 11-month period ended December 31, 2011; Bombardier delivered 163 business jets, compared to 155 for the previous fiscal year. During this same 11-month period, the company received 191 net orders for business jets, compared to 107 for the previous fiscal year.

Commercial Aircraft

For the 11-month period ended December 31, 2011; Bombardier delivered 78 commercial aircraft, compared to 97 for the previous fiscal year. During this same 11-month period, the company received 54 net orders for commercial aircraft, compared to 93 for the previous fiscal year.

Savings Account Deposits grew by 99.2% y-o-y & 40.0% q-o-q to ` 1,202.6 crore as of December 31, 2011 on account of increased traction since YES BANK was the first bank to raise saving account rates post deregulation by the Reserve Bank of India on October 25, 2011. Branch Banking Liabilities (CASA + Branch Banking term deposits) improved from 23.7% of Total Deposits as of December 31, 2010 to 30.7% as of December 31, 2011.

Corporate & Institutional Banking (Large Corporates) accounted for 63.4% of the Advances portfolio, Commercial Banking (Mid-sized Corporates) accounted for 21.4% and Branch Banking (SME & Retail) - 15.2%.

§ Healthy Net Interest Income (NII) Growth: NII for Q3FY12 increased by 32.3% y-o-y to ` 427.6 crore from ` 323.2 crore in Q3FY11. This was on account of a sustained growth in Customer Assets & stable NIM of 2.8%.

NII for 9MFY12 was up 29.9% to ` 1,167.4 crore as compared to ` 898.4 crore for 9MFY11. NIM for the Bank was 2.8% in 9MFY12.

§ Robust growth in Non Interest Income: Non Interest Income grew by 30.8% y-o-y to ` 211.4 crore in Q3FY12 from ` 161.7 crore in Q3FY11. This was on the back of strong growth in Financial Advisory, Transaction Banking and Financial Markets business streams. Components of Non Interest Income for Q3FY12 were as follows: Transaction Banking - ` 63.9 crore (30.2% of Non Interest Income), Financial Advisory - ` 80.6 crore (38.1%), Financial Markets - ` 48.3 crore (22.8%) and Branch Banking Fees & Others - ` 18.7 crore (8.8%).

Non Interest Income displayed sturdy growth of 35.3% to ` 590.8 crore in 9MFY12 as compared to ` 436.5 crore in 9MFY11; on account of continued traction in Transaction Banking, Financial Markets and Financial Advisory business streams. Components of Non Interest Income for 9MFY12 were as follows: Transaction Banking - ` 166.9 crore, Financial Advisory - ` 261.3 crore, Financial Markets - ` 114.0 crore and Branch Banking Fees & Others - ` 48.6 crore.

§ Operating and Net profit: Operating profit for Q3FY12 was up 28.1% to ` 398.8 crore as compared to ` 311.2 crore for Q3FY11 driven by healthy growth in Total Net Income. The Cost to Income ratio was 37.6% in Q3FY12. Net Profit in Q3FY12 was up 33.0% at ` 254.1 crore from ` 191.1 crore for Q3FY11 (highest ever for the Bank since its inception).

Operating profit for 9MFY12 was up 31.9% to ` 1,109.9 crore as compared to ` 841.6 crore for 9MFY11. The Cost to income ratio was flat at 36.9% in 9MFY12. Net Profit for 9MFY12 was up 34.6% to ` 705.2 crore from ` 523.7 crore in 9MFY11.

§ Consistently healthy Asset Quality: Gross Non Performing Advances as a proportion of Gross advances was at 0.20% while Net Non Performing Advances as a proportion of Net advances was at 0.04% as at December 31, 2011 as against 0.23% and 0.06% respectively as at December 31, 2010.

Bank's total loan loss coverage ratio was at 375% while specific provisioning cover was at 80.0% as at December 31, 2011.

Total Restructured Advances (excluding NPAs) is at 0.49% of Gross Advances as at December 31, 2011.

§ Strong Shareholders' returns: The Bank delivered RoE of 23.0% and RoA of 1.5% for
Q3FY12. RoE is 22.5% and ROA was 1.5% for 9MFY12. Return on Assets has been at or
above 1.5% over the past 13 quarters, and Return on Equity has been approximately 20% or
above over the same period.

§ Capital Funds: Tier I Capital stood at 9.2% (9.7% including Q3 FY12 PAT) and total CRAR stood at 16.1% as at December 31, 2011. Total Capital funds grew by 18.8% to ` 8,118.6 crore as at Dec 31, 2011 compared to ` 6,832.0 crore as at Dec 31, 2010. The Bank has improved its
Tier I Ratio over September 30, 2011, despite growth in the Balance Sheet by increasing percentage of Rated Advances.

Tata Steel Bags Prime Minister’s Trophy

The Ministry of Steel confers Tata Steel Limited with the Prime Minister's Trophy for two consecutive years 2008-09 and Certificate of Excellence for the year 2009-10

January 24, 2012 /India PRwire/ -- Tata Steel Limited, Jamshedpur won the Prime Minister's Trophy for performing as the best Integrated Steel Plant (ISP) in the country during the year 2008-09 and 2009-10. The trophy awarded annually by the Prime Minister of India carries a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2 crore.

As per the provision of Prime Minister's Trophy Scheme, any company having
won the Prime Minister's Trophy in two successive years, receives the trophy in the first year and a Certificate of Excellence in the succeeding one. Therefore, Tata Steel will be receiving the Prime Minister's Trophy for 2008-09 and the Certificate of Excellence for 2009-10. It is for the first time that Tata Steel has won the prestigious Certificate of Excellence.

The Company went through three rounds of rigorous assessment, wherein the enthusiasm and involvement of its employees was highly appreciated by the panel of judges for the Prime Minister's Trophy. This reaffirmed the belief of Tata Steel's possessing a strong and capable work unit which has a will to excel.

Tata Steel posted the most emphatic results by bettering its financial performance and making significant improvements in all areas of operations, such as production of hot metal and crude steel, quality assurance and customer satisfaction. Tata Steel is among the lowest cost producers of steel, and one of the few steel companies in the world that is EVA+. The Prime Minister's Trophy for the Best Integrated Steel Plant was earlier conferred on Tata Steel for the years 1994-95, 1998-99, 1999-2000, 2000-01, 2001-02.

The evaluation of the award is done by a panel of judges comprising technologists, economists, consumer's of steel and workers' representatives on a set of criteria covering operational, financial, market, export, quality, customer satisfaction, environment and human resource related parameters.

About the Award:

The trophy instituted in 1992-93 on the suggestion of the then Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao, recognizes the outstanding performance of the integrated steel plants. The award is intended to spur steel plants to achieve international standards of efficiency, quality and economy in their operations. The primary objective of the scheme is to generate a sense of competition among the steel plants so that they continuously benchmark themselves with the best and improve their performance.

As per the recommendations of the Expert Committee and amendments carried out by the Government of India, the 13 main parameters have been evolved for evaluating the performance of the integrated steel plants. They are-Steel capacity utilization, Efficiency of operations, Financial performance, Export performance, Quality of products, Environment management, Corporate Social Responsibility, Safety, Thrust on R&D, Customer satisfaction, Enabling parameters, Employees' Satisfaction Index, Observation of the Panel of Judges based on plant visits.
